We welcome children to join us around age 3 once they are happy to sit for about 5 minutes at a time.  They leave us at the end of their Infant school career.

Meeting:

The Diggers meet as part of Junior Church on a Sunday morning.  We leave the main service after a few minutes together as a church family and make our way to the large hall, unless it is Parade Service when the children stay in the whole time.  When it is Communion the children are returned to their carers to share communion together.  Otherwise they are kept until collected at about 11.30 a.m.

Activities:

Initially the Diggers join the J.A.T group for a welcome and the singing of a modern hymn using "kidsource" tapes.  This may include movement, dance or percussion instruments.  We then move into the small hall for a news sharing time, including celebrating Birthdays.  Gathering as one group we then have a story, usually from the Bible, and often a rhyme, prayer or activity on the same theme.  Finally we split into two groups for tabletop activities[reception age and under / years 1 & 2].  This may include art, craft, games, food preparation and eating, simple discussions, writing and puzzles etc. depending upon the theme and ages of the children.  An activity sheet is sent home to help the children share with the parents what they have been doing.

Welcome:

We welcome any children between the above ages but we have only a limited number of teachers, so until the children are happy to stay on their own, we do need the parents or carers to stay in the group with them.  We are also very grateful for the extra pair of helping hands.
