BFG

Hi! - Welcome to the BFG web page.

‘So what does BFG stand for?’ - I hear you ask.

OK, that’s a bit difficult, because it really stands for Bible Fellowship Group, which sounds a bit dull – which is one of the things we try not to be. In fact Big Friendly Giant really gives a better sense of what BFG is about, because if there’s one thing we do think we are, it’s Friendly.

BFG is a group of young teenagers that meets with a couple of adult leaders during the 10.30 am service at Shirley Methodist (Every Sunday except Parade, which is on the second Sunday of the month and in the summer holidays) We’re quite a mixed group – boys and girls - Years 7,8,9,10 and 11, plus – ten of us or more on a good day – three or four on a quiet day.

Sometimes the meetings are a mixture of activity and talk - sometimes we listen to music – we usually look at a Bible passage together and we pray. We also rehearse drama, which we then present in the Family services and Youth Services. Earlier this year we acted out St. Paul’s conversion.

Most of what we do is based on Roots, which provides material for young teenagers, based around one of the readings set for the day. Some of the material comes from the Bible, some of it from real stories of today. All of it is about issues that matter to teenagers today - and most weeks we have quite a few laughs.

There’s an evening group for Year 8+ as well, called YPF – and we always have a few Social events – a BBQ in September and a Ten Pin Bowling Party after Christmas.

So if you’re a young teenager, and interested in learning about Jesus and about being a Christian and in making new friends, come and join us on Sunday morning – You can be sure of a Big Friendly BFG Welcome.
