 The
35th Birmingham Company was formed in 1943 and over the years hundreds of members have passed through the ranks and of course many changes have evolved in how the Company is run.
The most important factor that will never change though is those first few words of the object of the Boys’ Brigade,
‘The Advancement of Christ’s Kingdom’.
We are proud to have Him as our leader and endeavour to follow his example as the Christian
organisation that we are.
Originally like most Companies formed in and around the second world war the 35th started as a just a Boys’ Brigade Company for those aged between 12 and 18.
Shortly afterwards the Lifeboys, the junior reserve, as it was known, for 9 to 12 year olds, was formed.
In later years these two bodies accordingly became the Junior and Company sections with the transfer coming into line with the change from junior to senior schools.
Finally the 1980’s saw the introduction of the youngest group, the Anchor Boys, with their distinctive red jerseys.
Like most organisations the 35th has had its ups and downs over the years but there are many, many highlights that have occurred over the years.
A section of this web site could be dedicated to these so if there are any ex members out there, boys or staff, with any special memories of their own that they would like to share, then please mail them in.
It may be something funny, something that was rewarding, or even something sad.
Maybe you’d just like to write about the 35th and the times (happy we hope!) that you spent in the Company.
Whatever they are all contributions will be welcome.
It’s always good to look happily on past memories but it is equally
important to look to the future and as we move on into the 21st century
it is pleasing to say that our numbers are holding up very well at the
moment. We rank above the national average and are one of the
largest Companies in the Birmingham Battalion. Good numbers of
course mean the need for plenty of staff, but more importantly dedicated
staff. As far as the latter is concerned we are very lucky but
obviously we could do with some more!
The leaders do a good job but it is the members of the 35th that really matter.
Each section has their own activities and future updates on this site will detail many of these, together with all the involvement in battalion events
and competitions in which our Company partakes. We shall be looking to
contributions from all sections so we can give a comprehensive guide as
to what the 35th does and what it means to our members.
